　　如果不是五光十色的射灯刹那间照亮了他握在手里的啤酒瓶，她也许不会注意到他。莱比锡俱乐部里音乐喧响。他站在群魔乱舞的场地外围，心不在焉地读着贴在瓶身上的标签。他没有注意到她像一只被反光吸引的蛾子那样，离开舞池，凑上前来和他攀谈。
　　他的家人都是搞艺术的，她听到他这样说。因为噪音的关系，她只听明白这么多；听明白了又怎样，今晚她不是为了聊天才出来的。最后，她面带微笑地问他是不是可以送她回家。他目光尴尬地望着地面，略一思考后答应了。
　　刚一回到住处，她就迫不及待地把他拉到床上。他躺在那里，一动不动。她开始吻他的嘴唇和额头。他皮肤冰凉。
　　她帮他褪掉身上的套头毛衣，从肩膀到胳膊一路向下抚过他身体。就在他的胳膊肘暴露在外的一瞬间，她呆住了。她发现他的关节不是真正的关节，而是铰链。同样奇特的还有他的身体，上面布满了一道道裂纹。她吓了一跳：“你是什么啊？”
　　“我不是有血有肉的人。我是陶土做的。”
　　“这些伤疤怎么回事？”
　　“我的父母把我浇进模里，但我不肯按计划成型。他们一气之下把我摔碎，又重新粘合成另外一种形状。这一次他们满意了，我也就成了他们口中的‘好孩子’。
　　“接着又来了一些人，他们还是对我不满意。每个人都想把我做成自己想要的样子，他们二话不说就把我敲碎、粘合，直到自己满意为止；这一个走了又轮到下一个……

　　我被无数只手反复塑造。尽管遍体鳞伤，我的头脑却是完整的。我一直有个埋在心底的愿望，那就是找回真正的‘自我’。于是我和自己的过往一刀两断，踏上了寻找自我的旅程。”
　　她在他陶土做的身体上打量了一番，说：“让我来帮你找回自我。”说完便冲出房间。过了一会，她回来了，两手背在身后，示意他闭上眼睛。
　　“哗啦”一声，他重新沦为一地碎片。她从一堆碎片中拾起脸的那部分，举到面前仔细端详，一只手握着锤子。“我终于得到了梦寐以求的男人”，她笑着说。但第二天早上她就把它扔了。

　　He’dprobablyneverhavebeennoticedwereitnotforthecolouredspotlightthatfellforaninstantonthebeerbottleinhishand.MusicboomedthroughtheLeipzigclub.Hestoodapartfromthemassofgyratingdancers,absentmindedlyreadingthelabelonthebottle.Sohe,inturn,didnotnoticeherleavethedancefloorand,likeamothdrawntothereflectedlight,comeovertotalktohim.
　　Shecouldhearhimsayhewasfromafamilyofartists,butcouldhearnothingelsethroughallthenoise.Wellsowhat:shewasn’thereforconversationanyway.Eventuallysheleanedoverwithasmileandwhisperedintohisear:wouldheliketoescortherhome?Hestaredbashfullyatthefloorforawhile,thenrecollectedhimselfandagreed.
　　Whenthetwoofthemgottoherflat,shelostnotimeindragginghimovertoherbed.Helaytherewithoutmovingamuscle.Shekissedhimonthelipsandforehead.Hisskinwascold.
　　Shepulledoffhisjumper.Sheranherhandsfromhisshouldersdowntohisarms,butstoppedathisbareelbows,forshesawthatinsteadofjointshehadhinges.Hisbodywasnolesspeculiar,forithadcracksallover.Shebackedawayandshotasinglequestionathim:“Whatareyou?”
　　“I’mnotamanoffleshandblood,”hesaid.“Iwasfiredoutofclay.”
　　“Wheredidyougetallthesescars?”
　　“Myparentspouredmeintoamould,butIjustwouldn’tcomeoutright.SointheirragetheydroppedmeandIburstintoathousandpieces,andthentheystuckmebackinthemouldagain.NowtheylikedhowI’dturnedout,andsoIwasagoodsontothem,astheyputit.
　　“Butthenotherpeoplecamealongwhoweren’thappywithme.Eachofthemwantedmeinadifferentshape.Theynevermissedanopportunitytobreakmeandgluemebacktogethertilltheylikedwhattheysaw–butalreadythenextonecamealongtoperfectmealloveragain.
　　“Iwentthroughmanyhands.Butasoftenastheybrokemybody,mymindremainedwhole,forIwasabletoholdontoonewish:tofindmytrueself.AndsoIputpaidtothepastandsetoutinsearchofmyself.”
　　Shelookedhisclaybodyupanddown.Thenshesaid,“Iwanttohelpyoufindyourself,”andhurriedoutoftheroom.Afteralittlewhile,shereturnedwithherhandsbehindherbackandtoldhimtoclosehiseyes.
　　Anoiserangout.Andonceagainhelaysmashedintoathousandpieces.Fromtheheapofdebrisshepickedoutwhathadjustbeenaman’sfaceand–withthehammerstillinherotherhand–placeditonherownface.“NowI’llhavethemanofmydreamsafterall,”shelaughed,thoughitcouldcertainlywaittilltomorrowmorning.
