　　赵六在街头游荡时，被警察抓住。他突然成了杀人嫌疑犯。
　　赵六不明白，自己没有杀人，怎么成了杀人犯呢？原来杀人犯和赵六长得一模一样，赵六被当成杀人犯了。后经仔细对照、辨认，才发现杀人犯的下巴上有一颗痣，赵六没有。所以，赵六被警局当场释放。
　　赵六被释放后，真凶并没有抓到。杀人犯受到全国通缉，到处张贴着凶手的照片。赵六每到一地，仍常遭错捕。他只好四处逃亡，仿佛自己真成了杀人犯了。杀人是要偿命的。赵六时不时摸摸下巴，心中异常恐惧。赵六曾从警局了解到受害人的住所，也知道死者是在住处被杀，于是决定去那里看看，或许能帮助警察发现一点线索。如果抓到真凶，他就可以尽快解脱了。
　　赵六找到死者住处后，非常吃惊。这里的一草一木，竟是如此熟悉。他从没来过这里，却又像是故地重游。他被一股无形的力量牵引着，顺着一条山路往上走，然后拐了几个弯，来到一棵枯树前。他不由自主地停住脚，蹲下去，用手挖开一个土堆。不料挖着挖着，竟然挖出一具死尸来。赵六吓得掉头就跑，被早已跟踪的警察逮个正着。
　　赵六被铐上手铐，扔上警车，带到了审讯室。
　　在审讯室里，赵六大声抗议：杀人犯下巴上有一颗痣，我不是杀人犯！
　　警察不说话，递给他一面镜子。
　　赵六傻眼了！他瞧见自己的下巴上，长出了一颗痣。

　　Zhao Liu was wandering along the street when he was arrested by the police. He was suspected of murder.
　　Zhao Liu wondered how he could be a murderer since he had never killed anyone. It turned out that the murderer and Zhao Liu were so much alike in appearance that Zhao Liu had been mistaken for the murderer. By careful contrast and detailed identification, the police concluded that there was a nevus on the murderer’s chin while there was none on Zhao Liu’s. So Zhao Liu was set free.
　　Yet the real murderer was still at large and he was wanted across the nation, his picture posted everywhere. Wherever he was, Zhao Liu was readily mistaken for the murderer and got arrested. He couldn’t but run away as if he had indeed killed someone. It would pay a life for a life. Stroking his chin from time to time, Zhao Liu was filled with extreme fear. Learning from the police about the victim’s residence, where the murdering had occurred, Zhao liu decided to go there, in hope that he might find out some clue, which would help capture the real murderer so that he could be really free.
　　When he arrived, Zhao Liu was stunned to find himself being so familiar with all grass and trees here. Never had he been here before; yet he seemed to be revisiting an old haunt. Drawn by an invisible force, he was ascending along a hilly path; after several turns, he was approaching a withered tree. In spite of himself, he stopped, crouched down and started digging a mound with his hands. He was digging and digging until he caught sight of a corpse in the mound! Zhao Liu was so scared as to turn to run, only to be captured on the spot by the police who had been tracking him all the time.
　　Handcuffed, Zhao Liu was thrust into the police cruiser and taken to the hearing room.
　　“There is a nevus on the murderer’s chin. I’m not the murderer!” protested Zhao Liu, in a loud voice.
　　Instead of saying a word, a policeman handed over a glass.
　　Zhao Liu was dumbfounded. He saw a nevus on his own chin!
