Chickens and Their Owner
By Ma Changshan
“How come men leave the wild creatures in their natural environment while locking us in a chicken house?”
“Considering my investment, you are different from those wild creatures.”
“Then how about releasing some of us while allowing the rest to make up for your investment?”
“Impossible. We human beings develop more interest in claiming a profit than recovering the investment.”
“But you will still gain a profit if you set free a small number of us.”
“No way. We pursue as great a profit as possible.”
“We seem to have no freedom throughout our lives; will you allow us a last request?”
“Just say it.”
“Since we are doomed to lose our freedom physically, we hope to be rewarded a bit spiritually; will you allow us some time for listening to music? This is our last request.”
“Surely I will. I’ll have a stereo installed right now.”
“It seems that you are not always considering your own profit.”
“It was yesterday that I learned music would contribute to a higher efficiency of your egg-production.” |
